Royal Glenn Acres is located just north of Moscow Bump in the Palouse region. My ranching dreams were inspired by my Dad's contagious enthusiasm for living life to its absolute fullest! My parents were refugees from "Comifornia". They moved to the Olympic peninsula with a chainsaw, and the idea that they would build a farm. It was rough! But they did it! Around the time I was born, Dad brought home our first jersey/brown swiss heifer to be our milk cow. Throughout my growing up, the collection of farm critters continued growing and changing. As I learned to manage, and care for, animals I slowly started building a picture of the ideal family cow in my head. As I worked through the failings of the ex-dairy cows my picture solidified to the point that I started researching different breeds. After 3 years of researching and shopping, I settled on the Irish Dexter. They are the only breed that comes even close to my idea of a family cow. And they're Irish to boot! They have an impressive reputation for such a tiny cow! For my 18th birthday, I bought my first Dexter heifer. She failed. Badly. But I had gotten a taste of the treasures to be dug out of this breed, so, I bought another. The second one was a huge success! So, I bought a third. And then a bull! Then some more cows! Some failed. Most have been great. None of them are quite good enough. But that challenge is to be expected. That's part of the game. My small herd of Irish Dexters continues to grow and improve as I take one step at a time toward producing the ideal family milk cow. My dream cow. A true family milk cow is a valuable gem.
