Lynn's history...
She was a freebie. And you know "free" is not good when her mom is a gorgeous cow with near perfect structure... She was a mental case to begin with. She was extremely reactive, skittish, unpredictable, even dangerous. She got stuffed in the back of the van along with Esther the day I bought Esther, 12/26/2019. I had no idea how I was going to tame her, but I wasn't passing up a free chance at getting THAT good of udder structure. Born 4/22/19 and acquired at 8 months old, I spent the next year trying to get her calmed down. I was somewhat successful. I at least got her calm enough to not shoot her. Finally got her bred... way later than I've ever had a heifer breed. I'll skip the many months of attempting to get her to cycle... First calving went bad. Calf presented correctly, but it was all I could do to pull it after too long of a labor. Nyx died seconds after birth. I attributed it to the hard labor and being my first time pulling a calf. I bred her again in hopes I could be better prepared if she needed assistance again. I was concerned that her pelvic was too small to calve safely, but wasnt sure. January 19, 2023, at morning feeding, I found her with her second calf. Baby had just been born and was dead. I decided at this point that my freebie had cost me many times more than she was worth, and would never make a return on. Planned to butcher... shortly after deciding that, my junior boy, Dapper Max, made it clear he disagreed. 5/20/24 was one of the most exciting days of my life. Baby Magnum was born perfectly. He was stamped to be a bull. He just plain was perfect. Lynn's mothering was perfect. Her udder was gorgeous, and she loved being milked. My failure cow was finally successful!!!
After a wonderful month of watching him grow and enjoying Lynn's rich, wonderfully creamy, and very abundant milk, Magnum turned up dead. I don't know why. Lynn went bonkers again. She was too mental to try milking, let alone handling at all. I left her alone out in the herd. Didn't know what to think or what to do.
She bred back to Cascades Braxton. I quit thinking about her.

11/11/25 Lynn met me at the pasture gate with a beautiful, healthy baby girl. There's nothing I love more than a baby, fresh, wet, rumpled from being nuzzled and cleaned, walking beside her mom to come meet me. It gives me a thrill I'll never get used to.
Magnolia is growing strong and beautiful. Lynn is a dream to milk. Everybody loves her. I have high hopes for this little lady redeeming her mom's horrible track record. I'll never sell any calf I get from Lynn, because I don't have answers for her first three failures, but I will definitely enjoy every moment of baby Maggie's life, and hopefully many more babies from Lynn.
